WPT – Final Table, but only 9th

It took me several days to get over my disappointment of only coming 9th on this tournament, that is why I am only writing now.  It basically all depended on a coin flip which I took with all the risks involved and I lost. Had I won it, I would have been the chip leader and would have had a great chance of winning the whole tournament (as the player who won this coin flip won the tournament).

Since then I have been thinking about it a lot, but I think I would take it again. Also it was not an obvious coin flip as I could have imagined easily going against AQ and dominate him from the way my opponent played.

I still think that I made several serious mistakes on this tournament and I am a little bit angry at myself because I should know better. One of them cost me a missed double-up and the other one should have cost me half my stack but I got lucky. And if I doubled up in that hand, I would have doubled that stack again in a AA vs JJ confrontation ont he Final Table  and the person who knocked me out would have been out of the tournament.

So basically, it is all my fault, but not in the last hand. I am the most mad about the missed double-up. I was sitting in the dealer position with 77. It was 5 handed before the final table. It was folded to me and I pushed my appr. 13BB instead of raise-calling. The big blind had 22 which he would have pushed on my raise but he didn’t call the all-in. The reason I pushed was that he would have re-raised me with a QJ or QT-type of hand too and I didn’t want to take a coin flip on the FT bubble. It was a big mistake. I also thought that he might still call me with 44-66 – the type of hand I would like to see pushing. Anyway, I can’t afford mistakes like this, it cost me my tournament.

I am still happy about making the (unofficial) Final Table of my first ever WPT tournament. I would have been happier to win it though :) )).

I made 3 Final Tables in the last 6 months (Unibet Open, NAPT side event and WPT) and came 9th twice but I won the third. Do you also think it is time to win one again? :D

Now I am looking forward to the upcoming tournaments in April, the Spanish Poker Tour and the two EPTs. I feel most of the time I play well, I was in top form in Bucharest (except those mistakes) and I think I learned a lot in the last couple of months. I am full of energy and want to make a big score :)

Congrats! You can’t win them all. What’s important is you always fight and win again. Everything has its season.
